OH - NO!
The Akron Leaking Urinal (a.k.a. Beacon Journal) ran this headline on Jan. 9, In one of the most shocking displays of poor coaching, play calling, and offensive/defensive production, "THE" Ohio State Buckeyes got thumped by THE University of Florida in Monday night's BCS Championship Game. Coach Jim Tressel put on arguably the worst ever Championship Game performance by a heavily favored team in the history of college football. Coach Tressel proved that his team had zero discipline, as the Buckeyes committed two major personal fouls in the first quarter that directly accounted for points on the board. I know, I know, it was not ALL Coach Tressel's fault. Troy Smith proved why he should not be a first round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Troy Smith is an average, mobile quarterback. He is not Vince Young. He is not Mike Vick. In Northeast Ohio, many Browns fans were calling for the Browns to actually draft Troy Smith with the third/fourth pick in the first round. Smith proved that Heisman Trophy winners are truly not necessarily the best player in college football, and it sure does not equate to success in the NFL (see Eric Crouch). The vaunted, high power, high flying, explosive Buckeye offense gained a seemingly unimaginable 82 total yards of football. The defense proved that they were not strong enough, fast enough, or talented enough to contend with the Gators offense. For any Buckeye fan that openly supports a playoff system in college football, think again. The Bucks may not have made it out of the first round of any playoff system, and if it were not for the rules of the BCS that guarantee that whoever loses still remains number two in the nation at season’s end, OSU may have been bounced entirely out of the top five. Coach Tressel should be ashamed of himself and his team. A good friend of mine, 2nd Lieutenant Jim Calko, an Officer in the United States Army was shipped off to Germany Sunday, before being sent to Iraq in February. He was greatly looking forward to a Buckeyes National Championship, but thanks to Jim Tressel, Troy Smith, and the rest of the Bucks, a great majority of the state of Ohio, and more importantly Jim Calko, feel a sense of embarrassment for THE Ohio State University. My message to any Buckeye fan would be that the next time you hear a loyal OSU fan chant “O-H” simply reply “N-O,” because did Jim Tressel and The Ohio State University football team show up for the BCS National Championship game? N-O. |
