Re: question the Left's patriotism

There are a lot of problems in the world that need to be solved. Questioning the patriotism of people who disagree with you doesn't help to solve problems or to move dialogue forward.

Specifically, you say that people who oppose the war in Iraq WANT failure. The truth is that President Bush lost the war. Senator Reid is simply admitting to that shameful fact. And the war in Iraq is not the same as the war on terror.

Now, I disagreed with starting this immoral (Iraq) war in the first place, but I also disagree with the idea of simply pulling out too. Both acts are irresponsible. We need a plan for securing the peace that involves a political solution that the people of Iraq can live with. Now that we have undermined their stability, we are responsible for creating a peace... and peace requires stability.

Senator Biden's plan is the only workable plan I have heard of. Perhaps you should be discussing the merits of various plans. No American wants America to "lose", we just have different beliefs about what strategies are most effective. I think it is much more valuable to debate strategies than to make assumptions about others' intentions.

That's the sad part, Greg, there are Americans who want America to lose. In no part of the column was it stated that all those opposed to the war oppose American success, but it cannot be denied that some who oppose the war desire American failure. No other conclusion can be drawn from the words and actions of the American (borderline and extreme) Left. (In other words, if the American Left wanted America to lose the war, how would they act any differently?) And until these folks are identified for who they are, little progress can be made.

Senator Reid's "admission" would have landed him in jail during Lincoln's day for treason. His giving aid and comfort to our enemies by his words and by his legislative proposals has had, and is having, devastating effects world-wide. The strategy to debate is eliminating the enemy; completely destroying them.

Additionally, your trick to separate the War on Terror from what is going on in Iraq is such an old Leftist game that it boggles the mind. Perhaps if you say it enough times, though, then it will be so.
