SUMMIT COUNTY REPUBLICAN POLITICS:
The Rise and Fall of John Widowfield

As most of the XEKE.com readers know, I am passionate about Conservative politics. Unfortunately, a month or so ago, "my fellow Republicans" decided to re-elect Alex Arshinkoff as Chairman of the Summit County (Ohio) Republican Party for yet another term. I have spoken out to great extent against Alex Arshinkoff, his cronies, and their failed attempt to deliver meaningful political victories to Summit County Republicans. Alex Arshinkoff has led the Party down a path that has delivered a new low for our once proud Party.

In March, Alex decided to run John Widowfield (former State Rep for the 42nd District) against Louise Heydorn (incumbent Summit County Council member- the only Republican on the Summit County Council) in the March Primaries, because Heydorn supported the New Summit Republicans, and Widowfield was one of Alex's puppets. Please do not get me wrong, if a Republican stops acting like a Republican, he or she must be defeated during the Primary elections (ie: George Voinovich). That being said, Heydorn was proudly representing the GOP, and Alex's decision to run Widowfield against her was strictly retribution against the New Summit Republicans.

[The] decision to run Widowfield against [Heydorn] was strictly retribution against the New Summit Republicans.

Now that I have set the backdrop, please allow me to give a political lesson using John Widowfield as my example. Widowfield once had a very bright future, as he was at one time a promising, up-and-coming GOP politician. Yesterday, John Widowfield was forced to resign his position, as he had allegedly purchased Ohio State Buckeye football tickets with campaign funds, then he allegedly sold them for a profit and pocketed the money (huge no-no). John will land on his feet. He allegedly has landed a cushy job working with one of Alex's supporters. That being said, if the allegations are true, and even if John lands a cushy job, his political career is over.

John Widowfield once had a bright future. He was a great politician. He was a great Republican. He had it all. I had not seen him in a few years, until I saw him at the Central Committee meeting a month or so ago. His glaringly obvious and obnoxious support of Alex Arshinkoff was eerie at best. It was nice to catch up with him after the dinner meeting, share a few laughs, and discuss politics. I had actually thought about extending the olive branch and asking him if there was anything that we (XEKE.com) could do to help him out with his campaign. I thought that deep down inside he was still the once proud, loyal, true Republican that I admired as an undergrad. I do not find grand delight in the failed political career of John Widowfield. I am saddened to see a once great politician with an endless political career have his career brought down by college football tickets.

I do find great delight and joy in seeing Alex Arshinkoff eat crow. You see, Alex either knew about John's indiscretion when he ran against Heydorn in March, or he was too blind to realize what was happening under his own nose with his own candidate. Either way, this mess rests squarely on the shoulders of Alex Arshinkoff. He did prove to Summit County Republicans that all of us in the New Summit Republicans knew exactly what we were talking about when we warned the masses of the doomed fate of the Party as long as Alex was Chairman.

XEKE.com is officially calling for the immediate resignation of Alex Arshinkoff. Alex is too preoccupied with fulfilling his gigantic ego, and saving his own political future than to concern himself with developing and suporting a culture of true Republican success in Summit County.

Again, I do feel bad for John Widowfield. He once had a very promising future in Ohio politics, and now he is simply a sideshow distraction to the Summit County Republican Party. John will find good work, and I wish him well. I hope that he can break the ties of Alex, rediscover the man he once was, and I wish him nothing but the best.
