Republican Field Analysis, July '07
or: If I have to see one more Ron Paul spammer. . .

I can hardly believe that I'm the only one who is completely tired of Ron Paul and his nagging spam-army. His gaffes at the debates, combined with his "good polling" in the post-debate online-response-polls has solidified in my mind that he is the Dennis Kucinich of the Republican Party.

Don't take my word for it, though, watch and listen to his quackery, and answer the following question:

  • Does this guy make any sense?

Let me be clear. Take any sentence or thought that Rep. Paul forms. It sounds great on its face, but when given any degree of thought, it crumbles like a house of cards made of tissue paper.

For instance, Rep. Paul says, "I'd rather be free AND alive. And you can be. You do not have to give up your liberty in order to be safe." A classic Liberal talking point. Raise your hand if you've given up your liberty, in any part or form, in this War on Terror. Anyone out there worried about their phone being tapped? Anyone worried about having their bank records reviewed by Karl Rove? Get serious folks. The only people who have anything to worry about are the ones building car bombs in their basements, the ones talking to jihadi doctors in Scotland, or the ones asking for one-way tickets to Pakistan. Nobody's Constitutional rights have been violated, because if they had been, if a face could be attached to a "violation", it would be lead story on the three broadcast networks, CNN and The New York Times.

Another example: "It is dissent from Government policies that defines the true patriot and the champion of liberty." This guy reads from Hillary Clinton's notes! My first question for Rep. Paul is this: So what happens when Government policy is correct. . .is it then also patriotic to dissent? There has to be a greater standard for patriotism than dissent.
The founding fathers dissented, but they also formed coherent thoughts as a result of their dissent, something which Ron Paul and his Spammers have yet to acheive.

What the Republican Party, and more importantly the Conservative movement, needs most right now is to get the riff-raff fringe out of the spotlight.

  • Mitt's and Rudy's message is clearly resonating with voters as evidenced by the sheer numbers of donors that have supported them. This alone makes it worthwhile to keep them around.

  • Duncan Hunter appears to have a genuine grass-roots movement out there, the depth of it is yet to be determined.

  • Mike Huckabee I like. . .a lot, but the fact is he's the small tree reaching for the sunlight with a towering forest around him. God bless him. (A vice-president, perhaps?)

  • Fred Thompson needs to show me something. I liked his response to Michael Moore. And I like the thought of him responding to the Euro-weanies and Muslim-Fanatics in a similar manner, but it's going to take more than that.

  • As for John McCain, he hung himself with the noose of pro-amnesty legislation.

  • Jim Gilmore still hasn't done anything for me except get me to actually remember his name (though I did have to spell-check).

  • Brownback. . .eh.

  • Tommy Thompson, ditto.

  • I suppose if I'm forgetting anyone else that they're probably not a big-enough player to be included.

  • Oh, yeah, Ron Paul needs to bow out. . .now. Did I mention Dennis Kucinich?

In summary, I'm tired of the political media game. I want to pick a nominee ASAP so that we, as a Conservative movement and a Republican party, can sufficiently begin gearing up for the general election and focus our energy on defeating Hillary Clinton. (Face it, it's destiny.) I stand with Larry Sabato when I say it's time we get away from the two families that have occupied the White House over the past (what will be) 20 years. May the Ron Paul supporters come to their senses, may the spamming come to an end, and may the new White House occupants be named Romney.
