Palin for VP -- Hurray!

Recently I've come to expect John McCain to consider the option that a good Conservative might choose, and then decide upon the option that is 180 degrees away from the Conservative option. Immigration. Campaign Finance Reform. Global Warming. I could go on. But his choice for Vice President was simply brilliant.

The selection of Sarah Palin was phenomenal for a myriad of reasons, listed here in no particular order:

  • The political home for women is the Republican Party. The Democrat Party shunned its most viable candidate in favor of a non-experienced, radical, Leftist, racist, Marxist, America-hater. Could Hillary have been that bad? But on the heels of the Democrats casting aside the woman and choosing an old, white man for VP candidate, John McCain, in the pick of Sarah Palin, showed that women not only have a place, they can find advancement and leadership opportunities in the GOP.

  • The issue of energy is now front and center. "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less," could not have a better torch bearer than the Governor who has sat on ANWR just waiting to tap the wealth of resources found there. The cost of gas is already an issue, and we need a voice advocating the utilization of our own resources. Sarah Palin, and her husband, Todd, will do just fine in this department.

  • Sarah Palin is a mom with a career. Can we expect an endorsement from the NOW crowd? I think not. Their dis-endorsement of Gov. Palin begins as a template that could be applied to any female candidate, mixes in a few specifics, and ends with:
Sen. Joe Biden is the VP candidate who appeals to women, with his authorship and championing of landmark domestic violence legislation, support for pay equity, and advocacy for women around the world.
I ask you this, talk to your mother, your mother-in-law and/or your wife who better represents them, an old, white, 30+ year Senator who drafted domestic violence legislation, or a mid-40's working mother of 5 children. Hmmm.

  • The Left and the Media needs to tread very lightly on the abortion issue, especially as it relates to birth defects and issues such as Down Syndrome. A pro-life plank will be firmly in place at the GOP convention.

  • Is there anything more American than NRA membership? Gun rights go back to the mid 1700's, and we're always glad when we can find politicians that recognize history and support preserving that history. Sarah Palin is a lifetime member, and regularly hunts and fishes, and not like John Kerry when he said, "I'm here to get me a hunting license." Middle America will appreciate this, and Todd must be proud. Apparently, the Obama camp is conceding all of the NRA votes.

  • To say that Sarah Palin has no experience is false. As a governor, she's been an executive of a large state with vast resources. But, for the sake of argument, let's grant that she is short on "experience." Where this will be a benefit for the GOP is when the Media and the Obama camp (one and the same) argue that "she has less experience than Obama." The GOP can then respond by saying, "If experience is an now an issue, let's point out that Barack Obama is running against John McCain, not Sarah Palin." The Left has already stepped in it on this issue, and they'll likely pay for it on Nov. 4.

  • By choosing a real Conservative, the Right will be energized in a way that McCain/Ridge or McCain/Lieberman simply could not match. It wasn't that long ago that those of us here at XEKE.com could barely muster the energy to go vote for McCain. But as it stands today, we're excited about the ticket, and we don't feel as though we're simply voting against Obama, but rather we actually have a ticket we can enthusiastically support. Conservatives can now rally behind McCain as the future of the party looks a little less Moderate.

  • Dovetailing with the point above, let's face it, when McCain clinched the nomination, state and local Republican politicians everywhere were worried because the lack of McCain-enthusiasm among the Conservatives did not bode well for their chances. If the Conservatives stayed home, the local and state Democrats would win with low voter turnout. With excitement among the base, the small-fry politicians (tomorrow's big dogs) will be competitive again.

There will clearly be ups an downs ahead. The Media will attempt to destroy her. Joe Biden will attempt to "bloody her nose." But we'll see on election day, Nov. 4, that the nation does not want a Leftist, America-hating president. Rather, the nation wants a president that can lead, and that surrounds himself with positive thinkers, not crusty, old bullies.
