McCain's Acceptance Speech
XEKE.com's Stream of Consciousness during and after McCain's Speech:
- I love that Code Pink made fools of themselves.
- Until his "culture of life" and "no judges that legislate from the bench" lines, I was frankly kind of down on the speech. And then he got into some specifics, like school choice ("help bad teachers find a different line of work"... great line!), tax cuts and energy independence ("stop sending $700 billion to countries that don't like us..."... another great line!), and I got a lot more into it.
- I want more Sarah Palin.
- McCain elaborated well on JFK's call to serve the nation. Suggesting that those who don't like America actually attempt to improve it was a nice touch, as well as joining the ministry, teaching an illiterate adult to read... all good thoughts, and a bit more specific than the "hope" and "change" we've heard so much about from the Obama Camp.
- The pundits may pan the speech because he's not as gifted as Palin or Obama at speaking, but I believe this speech will make good sound bytes in the coming days.
- While not entirely memorable, McCain spelled out the differences between an Obama Presidency vs. a McCain Presidency quite clearly.
- I love the big families of McCain and Palin. Definitely a Conservative thing.
- Now the speech is over, it's on. The Liberal Establishment will be in full-blown scorch-the-earth mode attempting to destroy Sarah Palin (and thereby the McCain campaign) and to prop up the Obama campaign. Conservatives need to be prepared to not only fight back, but also to recognize the filter through which the Liberal Media will package and distribute their information.
Some final thoughts about current dynamics that you won't see in polling data:- My grandparents, lifelong Democrats, were fearful of an Obama Presidency but not sold on a McCain Presidency. Sarah Palin changed that for them, and they're solidly in the McCain/Palin camp. How many more AARP members fit into this genre?
- My father has shunned calles and letters for the GOP for donations since the late '90's when the Republicans began to lose their way. He wrote a check to the GOP last night after the Palin speech. How many more former GOP loyalists have been re-energized?
- Don't trust any poll from now until election day. There are too many variables that cannot be accounted for, and in some cases, will not be accounted for.
