SUPPORT OUR TROOPS American soldiers define the word hero. Many of us complain when we have to get up early when we are feeling under the weather, or if we have had a night out with friends that lasted too long, or if a customer gives us a hard time at work. We have the luxury of calling off for appointments, personal days, sick days, half days, holidays, etc. American soldiers do not have that luxury. American soldiers work 24/7. A bad day at the office for a soldier does not mean that they had to work during their lunch hour because they had a lot of paper work. American soldiers truly put their lives on the line for America so that we are free. The honorable men and women of the United States Armed Forces risk death and injury without the luxury of an air conditioned office, six figure salaries, paid holidays, three day weekends, or many of the perks that we take for granted. This is a first, and maybe a last; I am going to put politics aside. I understand that some people do not support President Bush and many people to support President Bush and the war on terror. Whether or not you support our President, you must support our troops. When sports teams win a championship or title, that team's city rallies behind the team, holds parades, and are treated like heroes, yet when real heroes, American soldiers return home, they receive little fan fare. This needs to change. An athlete who makes $10,000,000 to play a kids sport is not nearly as important, or as heroic as our American soldiers that domestically and abroad defend America from terror. xeke.com will add a new page that is devoted to American soldiers, Support our Troops. I will welcome any ideas or suggestions of links that can be added to the site that are devoted to supporting our troops. www.fisherhouse.org is an excellent website that supports our troops. Here, you can donate money to help families of soldiers who honorably and heroically were injured or lost their lives in an effort to protect America. Fisher House supports military families in their time of need. Fisher House collects donations to send to military families, buy gift cards to send to military families, and there is a link to send a letter to injured military personnel. www.adoptpaws.org/mascots is another excellent website that supports our troops. As you can tell by the name of the website, Military Mascots is a grassroots effort, supporting by volunteers, whose effort is dedicated to the assistance of deployed Service Members who have befriended a canine mascot on foreign ground. Their mission is "To heighten morale and support the US Service Members with canine mascots by offering care packages from "home" and providing them with Veterinarian and Humane Society contacts on their side of the world that may be of guidance to them in brining in their Mascots to the US to their own families." I am a proud owner of a nine year old beagle-dachshund mix dog named Happy. I know how much she means to me, and how much dogs mean to their owners, and Military Mascots offer support to troops and dogs. Thank you to my friend Angel, a proud Devil Dog Mom for providing xeke.com with these valuable websites. If you have any other websites that you would like me to add to the new "Support Our Troops" page, feel free to email me at: zach@xeke.com. |
