AMERCIAN HEROES, AMERICAN SOLDIERS Every day, people become heroes in their own ways. The term hero is often misused on athletes, actors, musicians, and entertainers. A hero does not always receive the glamour, attention, and praise that he or she deserves. A true hero does not need to make a million dollars to make a difference in the life of others. It is time to stand up and thank the true American heroes. Teachers, good teachers at least, have a great responsibility to carry on civilization as we know it, by teaching the youth of America. There are too many teachers in America that are preoccupied with having their summers off, and that count down the days until retirement. These teachers are the exception to the rule, at least I hope they are. A teacher is not only an educator, but a teacher is a parental model for children that lack a strong family support structure. A teacher is a safe haven for a child who is in danger. A teacher opens the door to a child's future, and gives them the skills they need to be productive citizens. Teachers that do not reflect these values should no longer be allowed to teach. Unfortunately, teachers belong to unions that support them, even though some are a detriment to their students, instead of a positive light in the life of the children that need them the most. Teachers give the basic educational, social, and life skills to America's youth, and they are true heroes. Police officers make a career out of helping out others. Unfortunately, many police officers have a negative reputation amongst the youth and minorities. Most police officers, a great majority of them, are honest, hard working, caring people. That being said, there are too many officers who abuse their power. I have seen police officers abuse this power far too many times. Sometimes a police officer will turn his or her lights on just so they can drive through a red light, or pull a U turn, and them turn them off, and go on their marry way, and then pull over a hard working American for going 40 in a 35. This is the least of the abuses that some offers participate in. An interesting statistic would be how many DWBs (Driving While Black) occur daily, weekly, yearly. I am sure that police officers would categorically deny that DWBs occur, but there is a perception that they do occur, and police officers need to do a better job at getting the message out that DWBs do not occur, if they do not. Again, these officers that abuse their power are in the minority. Most cops work hard, keep citizens safe, and have a passion for the job they do Most police officers are true heroes and role models for America's youth. Honest, hard working, 40 hour a week Americans are heroes. You do not have to love your job in all cases, to be a hero. Someone who wakes up at the crack of dawn to open the local grocery store, someone who works in a factory making safe, quality products, someone who does what they are supposed to do and does not complain about it, that is a true American hero. There are millions of heroes in America like these people. People who work paycheck to paycheck to provide a nice home, food, and try to create a comfortable quality of life for themselves and their families deserve more respect. These hard working Americans deserve pay checks so that they can keep more of the money they earn, instead of having taxes increased by Democrats, such as John Kerry. These people have even lesser chance of being recognized as heroes than teachers or police officers, but they are American heroes nonetheless. The ultimate American hero is the American soldier. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, National Guard, Coast Guard, and all armed forces are the pinnacle of what an American hero symbolizes. The elitist liberal media loves to focus on the negative. The New York Times seems to make it a daily routine by showing and discussing the Abu Ghraib prison pictures. The liberal elitists, including those at the NYT and liberal democrat politicians are relentless in their coverage and focus on this tired and played non-news story. There were a handful of knuckleheads that got caught in pictures humiliating terrorists in prison camps. There are so many more stories to cover about the military. Every day, honorable, heroic military personnel build schools, hospitals, and create a better quality of life for Iraqi citizens. Every day, honorable, heroic military personnel defend and protect the freedom of Americans throughout the world. American soldiers put themselves in the line of fire all over the world, to defend American civilians, while leaving their spouses, children, parents, friends, and loved ones behind. Military personnel deserve nothing but the best jobs and opportunities when they come home. Again, there is no greater hero, no nobler American than one who honorably serves his country, and lays his life down for his brother. To all American soldiers and military personnel, on behalf of America, I salute you and give you a long overdue thank you. God bless all American soldiers, and may they return home safely to their families and loved ones. |
