Republican Debate, Second Verse. . .

I can't say that a lot changed for this Conservative Republican observer after last night's debate, especially considering from where I started following the last debate.

One thing I enjoyed was that the idiot, Chris Matthews, was nowhere to be found. No worse moderator could be found for a Republican "debate" than Chris Matthews, but leave it to MSNBC. Brit Hume, Wendall Goller and Chris Wallace did a nice job. I agree with some of the blogs that Wendall Goller missed an opportunity to let the candidates duke it out after Ron Paul's asinine statement (more on this later) but instead moved on to his next question like his outline dictated. But overall, this was a much more professional appearing "debate."

What hasn't changed? The fact that we still need at least five of these candidates to drop out, and I mean yesterday. Ron Paul, after suggesting that we listen to the terrorists, has officially marked himself as "kook-fringe." Glenn Beck is right, Tommy Thompson's face does look like a catchers' mit, and he scares me with his un-animation (and particularly his lack of substance). Tancredo, I'm for tightening up the borders and deporting the illegals, too, but you've got to bring more to the table than that. Gilmore, I still don't know your first name. McCain is on the wrong side of too many issues, particularly Constitutional issues, (see McCain/Feingold). And that's just a start. Get rid of the "candidates" that have neither a chance, nor a clue, and let the real ugly battles take place in the Democrat Party primaries.

We still need at least five of these candidates to drop out, and I mean yesterday.
Ultimately, this is a shootout between Rudy and Mitt. The rest are just props. It's high time debates be structured for these two and nobody else. These guys have coherent ideas, they have passion, and they each possess the skill most needed in a president and most desired by the American public: leadership. And these potential debates will only strengthen the Republican party in the long run.

The wild card here is Fred Thompson. With each passing debate, and each retort to the male face of the Left, Michael Moore, he looks more and more presidential. As my father says, could you imagine Thompson talking to Putin like he talks to Moore? LORD, grant us the opportunity.
