It was not long ago when the only place to watch cutting edge new television programming was network TV. A generation ago, NBC offered us The Cosby Show, Cheers, and Night Court. This generation grew up with Friends and Seinfeld. What is next for TV? It seems like there are more realty TV shows this season than drinks consumed be Ted Kennedy on a Friday night. I must admit that from time to time I will watch a realty show, but honestly, arent Americans tired of too much realty TV? I know I am. There are very few shows worth watching. I personally prefer to watch comedies along with sports and FNC). Unfortunately, there seems to be only three TV shows left, realty TV, CSI, and Law and Order. There is hope, albeit minimal hope, but some hope for TV viewers in need of a good laugh.
Reno 911
Reno 911 is on Comedy Central, Wednesday nights at 10:30. Reno 911 is a mix of cops and Saturday Night Live. This parody of Cops is possibly the funniest show on TV. The cast and comedy is similar to a sketch comedy, such as SNL, but when SNL used to be funny. The character development and off the wall comedy is genius. Give Reno 911 a chance, and if you like witty humor and developed character comedy, you will love this show. The season finale is Wednesday evening, September 22, but if you have never seen Reno, you will surely enjoy the re-runs.
Scrubs
Scrubs is one of the few reasons to watch network TV (other than the Simpsons and sports). Scrubs is on Tuesday nights at 9:30 on NBC. Scrubs is a sitcom that takes place in a hospital. Scrubs is undoubtedly the funniest show and best product that NBC has to offer. Scrubs is the wittiest show on TV and if you can keep up with the sarcasm and wit, you will have something to look forward to on Tuesday evenings, other than the World Series of Poker.
Arrested Development
Arrested Development is the Fox Networks newest must-see comedy. Following in the lineage of The Simpsons and Malcolm on Sunday nights, Arrested Development airs 8:30 Sunday evening. Familiar faces in different roles add to this original and unique comedy. Arrested Development is a comedy about an affluent dysfunctional family and the daily mishaps each of the brilliantly developed characters goes through. Do not turn of Fox Sunday evenings until you have watched Arrested Development.
The Simpsons
If you have not seen The Simpsons then I would like to congratulate you for surviving your 10 year coma. I hope your recovery goes smoothly. The Simpsons is one of the greatest comedies of all time. The Simpsons airs Sunday evening at 8:00 on Fox. Again, I am sure that you know what The Simpsons is about, so I will not go any further other than saying if you do not watch The Simpsons, start watching it, and if you do, keep watching one of televisions true gems.
