Material Girl First of all, a disclaimer: Until a few months ago, I had forgotten that Madonna even existed. I was never a big Madonna fan. Sure, I'll tap my foot or nod my head if I hear "Don't go for second best baby, put your love to the test. . ." in the mall, but I don't spend much time thinking about the freak-show singing the song. But now I can't get away from this Madonna craziness; it seems she's on the television even when I turn it off. And the latest rumer is speculation that she gave a bunch of money to the African orphanage so that she could adopt a (non)orphan so that she could use the publicity to promote her new "children's kabbalah book." Good thinking, Madonna. All of this behavior can be boiled down to a grasp for relevancy. For some odd reason she doesn't want to be remembered in everybody's mind as the girl who wore the pointy bra and rolled around on a bed on stage. (And here I thought this was the aspiration of all little girls!) Instead, she has looked back on her life and asked herself, "If I stop here, what will they think?" So she's immersed herself in children's books and giving to the poor (both good things) while at the same time still doing freaky things at her concerts ("hanging" on the cross, a recent concert stunt of hers, was just stupid). Madonna, you can't have it both ways. If Madonna wants to be be sincere in her quest for relevancy, she should consider staying away from the publicity stunts and doing good deeds when TV cameras aren't around.
