1776 David McCullough A narrative of the birth year of our country, 1776 reads like a novel and is a fascinating read. It is simply a point of fact that the hand of God was on George Washington and many of his subordinates during this pivotal year. McCullough tells the stories of the seige of Boston, complete with Henry Knox's trek to retrieve many tons of cannon from upstate New York in the dead of winter and bring them to Boston to force out the British, as well as the miracle of the crossing of the Delaware River. You will read these stories and well up inside with a respect and awe for our Founding Fathers. Those who think that circumstances today are dire or that America is tearing apart at the seams must have not yet read 1776. There have been no more fragile days in our history than in 1776, including during the Civil War Era. But the resolve of great men, while following the guidance of God, set a foundation for America that would last for centuries. If you only ever read one history book in your life, make it 1776 by David McCullough. |
